Some moments in life just sneak up on you. The other day, I was wrapping up work and made a quick stop at the store when a man walked up and asked, “Hey, do you know how to tie a necktie?”
I told him I did, and he asked if I could help him out. He had an event to attend but couldn’t figure out how to tie it himself. Then he said, “I’ve been watching YouTube videos and trying over and over, but I just can’t get it.”
So he handed me the tie, and I did what I’ve done a hundred times—looped it around my own neck, tied the knot, then slipped it off and showed him how to adjust it. Simple enough, right?
But as I walked away, I realized there was a bigger lesson in that moment.
Sometimes in life, no matter how hard we try, no matter how many times we watch the tutorials, read the instructions, or attempt to figure things out on our own, we still struggle. And that’s okay. That’s why we need people who are willing to step in, even in small ways, to guide us when we’re stuck.
Proverbs 27:17 says, “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.”
God didn’t design us to navigate everything by ourselves. He places people in our lives to teach us, encourage us, and sometimes just help us tie the knots we can’t seem to figure out. And in turn, He gives us opportunities to do the same for others.
So maybe today, you’re the one frustrated and stuck, feeling like you’ve tried everything. Or maybe you’re the one who can step in and help. Either way, don’t overlook the little moments. Because sometimes, something as simple as a tied knot can remind us that we were never meant to do this life alone.
