I read Acts 1 this morning, and you know what stood out? The disciples were told to wait. Not to charge ahead, not to figure things out on their own, not to start a five-step action plan. Just… wait.
And I don’t know about you, but waiting is not my strong suit.
Jesus ascends into heaven—literally lifts off the ground like a divine superhero—and what do the disciples do? Stand there. Staring. For so long that two angels have to show up and be like, “Uh, guys? What are y’all doing? He’s coming back, but not right now.” (Paraphrased, obviously.)
I can’t blame them. If I saw someone float up into the clouds, I’d probably need a minute, too. But what got me thinking was this: Jesus told them to wait where they were. He didn’t tell them to fix everything first. He didn’t give them a timeline. He just said, Stay here until you receive the Holy Spirit.
And that’s the part that hit home—because right now, I’m in a season of waiting.
Waiting for things to line up. Waiting for clarity. Waiting for that next step that I know is coming but hasn’t quite arrived yet. And honestly? I’d rather be moving. Doing something. Anything. Even if it’s just rearranging my desk for the tenth time (which, for the record, is a completely normal coping mechanism).
But here’s what I’m learning: Waiting isn’t just sitting around.
The disciples didn’t just twiddle their thumbs in a Jerusalem Airbnb. They prayed. They prepared. They stayed together. And when the time came, they were ready. Because waiting on God isn’t passive—it’s active trust.
Maybe you’re in a season of waiting, too. Maybe you’re looking at your life, at your situation, and thinking, “Okay, God… any day now.” And maybe—just maybe—He’s saying, Stay here. I’m working on something. Keep trusting. Keep praying. Keep being faithful right where you are.
Because when God says go, you don’t want to be caught staring at the sky.
So if you’re waiting—whether for an answered prayer, a next step, or just a little bit of clarity—you’re not alone. And you’re not wasting time. Because waiting isn’t about doing nothing. It’s about preparing for everything God has in store.
And trust me… it’s gonna be worth the wait.
